LIBRARY MISSION The University of Mauritius Library has been set up with the objective of providing the necessary bibliographic support as well as the services and facilities to satisfy the information needs of its various categories of users, namely the registered students and the academic and technical staff of the University. The primary goal of the Library is to provide an effective and efficient service to University staff and students by making accessible to them all materials required to enable them to meet their information needs through a current and effective reference and information service. COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT During the current year, the Library continued to develop its book collection and its online services in order to provide the necessary bibliographic support as well as the ancillary services and facilities to satisfy the information needs of its clientele, namely the academic staff, the part-time lecturers and the registered students of the University as well as bona fide researchers from both public and private sectors. The Library was able to add a total of some 4,000 books to its collection. These include books purchased out of the funds earmarked under the Documentation Vote of the library budget as well as books received as a result of generous book donations from traditional donors such as ministries and governmental departments, parastatal bodies, foreign diplomatic missions, international organisations and private individuals. 167 CD-ROMs were also received and have been placed in the audiovisual section where they are available on demand for consultation within the Library premises. At present, the Library has 1767 CD-ROMs. The Library also continued to receive publications from the United Nations Organisation and its agencies as well as from the World Bank in its capacity as partial deposit library for these two institutions.
